The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government sector public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage.

National Service Scheme is offered as a curricular programme with a credit load of 0+1.
Regular activities will be carried out by the volunteers for the first four semesters in the colleges and adopted villages.
At the end of the fourth semester, special camp is organized for seven days in the adopted villages and compulsorily, the students will stay in the village itself.

Special Camping forms an integral part of National Service Scheme. It has special appeal to the youth as it provides unique opportunities to the students for group living, collective experience sharing and constant interaction with community.
